To sum up, they took 15 min to notice me leaning against a shelf staring at the sellers (there was only another couple in the store, being helped by another seller), and when they did, they tried to charge me more than they said it would cost by phone.
It started with me placing a call to the store to check if a specific model was available, and what would be the price. The lady answer the phone promptly (the upside of my whole experience), and asked if I could hold for her to check. After a minute or two, she told me that they did have the watch, and that it had a 15% discount. I asked the price, if it would be “around $300”, and she answered that “around that, without taxes”. That was a good price, given that in other stores this same watch is sold for around $360. I live 40 min away from the store, but given the price, it would worth to drive up there. When I get there, I walked to the Movado section, where I found the watch I was looking for, but no seller approached me to offer help. After I stayed leaning against the shelf and looking at the direction where two of the sellers were talking with each other for about 15 minutes, one came to me asking if I needed some help, I say yes.
By far the worst Movado store I have been to.
I told her about the watch, that I would like to have it, and then the surprise: the price with the discount was $420! I told her about the phone call, but she told me she could not help, but she would call the manager. She called a gentleman, who asked what had happened, I told him the history again. He went inside (I guess to ask the lady who take care of the phone calls), and came back telling me that she was sure that she had told me 15% off. I told him, yes, it was 15% off, but when I asked if the price would be around $300, she told me yes, plus taxes. His answer was that “this isn’t a quotation”. I told him that I understood, but even though “around $300” isn’t a quotation, $420 was not a representation of “around $300”. He told me that he couldn’t do anything to help me, and that I should have asked for a quotation before driving there.
I love their Lacoste wristwatch collectors and the guy that attended was super polite.
